The Proposal

On September 17, 2011, Graym and I headed over to Shenandoah National Park for a short hike up to Mary's Rock. The fact that we even made it out there that day was quite astounding. See, I didn't exactly make it easy for Graym to propose. Every other day I would fill him in with new plans and appointments during the coming week, many of which fell during the weekend. Due to bridesmaid dress shopping with my cousin for her own wedding, the 17th was originally out of the picture and we planned our hiking trip for my next available open weekend...October 8th. Well, Graym being the impatient man that he is just couldn't wait that long to pop the question. On Tuesday he called my cousin to break the news and asked for an IOU, and later that I got a text from her saying the dress appointment had been cancelled. Our excursion was pushed forward, but it doesn't end there. After waking up early Saturday morning to head to a women's gathering at church, I noticed the chilly temperature and cloudy forecast and quickly asked Graym if we should postpone our date once again. I got a quick and solid "No" and three hours later, after a lovely manicure with mom (she's so sneaky!) we bundled up, packed our picnic dinner and a blanket, and drove west.

We had a great hike up, filled with giggles and frequent pit-stops for water, photos, and little kisses. The view from the top was incredible. You could see the entire Shenandoah Valley, and I was left breathless at the immense beauty before me.

It was a perfect evening with a perfect man. We talked, we laughed, we shared our love with one another. The sun was setting beautifully in the background, tickling the sky with shades of pink and purple. It was then that Graym asked if I'd like to stand a little closer to the edge, and as I obliged he wrapped his arms around me and held me close. He asked if I'd like to pray, so we closed our eyes, tilted our heads, and Graym led us in praising our God.

It was at this moment I knew something was up as I experienced some slight deja vu. Almost a year prior, on the night Graym first asked me to be his girlfriend, we lowered our heads to pray before he popped that question. As we concluded on prayer on this night, high above the valleys before us, Graym got down on one knee and popped the question that every girl dreams of hearing, "Sasha, will you marry me?" Amidst cries of joy and laughter, I excitedly said yes as he grabbed his new fiancee (me!!) in his arms. I now have the most gorgeous ring on my finger, which every day I wake up thinking It's not a dream!

Nope, it's not a dream. It's the best reality I could have ever imagined.
